This fall with Shadowkeep, Destiny 2 is simultaneously going gratis-to-play, in part, selling individual seasons, and adding boxing passes to the game. And needless to say, things are a getting a little chip…complicated.

Ane complication arose from something I was told this by calendar week regarding seasons, and how they would be available beyond cross-salve accounts. This was news to the community, but resulted in a fair bit of confusion to the point where Luke Smith himself had to come up out and clarify. And fifty-fifty so, some are saying that's nevertheless not clear enough.

Time to clarify this once and for all.

How this started is that I replied to a comment on Twitter where someone was asking if you lot had to buy seasons on both say, PS4 and PC if you lot were doing cross save. I said yes, you did, because previously Bungie said that all DLC would accept to be purchased on both accounts.

But subsequently I said that, Bungie comms reached out to me.

They said that in fact, if you were using cross relieve and bought a flavour on your principal business relationship, it would transfer to any other platforms. The example I was given was that if your "main" cross save account was Xbox, if you bought the season there, it would transfer to PC. So I tweeted that, and it went a little bit viral, equally this was the first time this news was shared near seasons, and how they would work differently from larger DLC like Shadowkeep.

Merely this didn't make a ton of sense. What if yous used cross save to motion from Xbox to PC but sold your Xbox after, and so you couldn't purchase seasons there? I asked Bungie if they were looking into ownership a season anywhere and having information technology transfer and they said they'd get back to me.

Enter Luke Smith'due south clarification:

He'southward maxim that you tin can purchase seasons and they will transfer "with your cross-saved Guardian" but some people said that wasn't clear enough, and didn't answer the platform-specific question most where yous needed to originally purchase the season.

So, I had what is no uncertainty the longest backside the scenes convo I've ever had with Bungie about this, trying to go terminal clarity, and here's what nosotros came up with.

  • Originally, the Xbox example I was given was incorrect, and when the term "primary account" was used, information technology means your chief Bungie account and your main Guardians which are shared across the accounts through cross salve.
  • Seasons will be purchased via Silver, and since all Silver purchases, no matter where they are, are transferred between cross save accounts, seasons part the aforementioned fashion. Equally in, you lot can purchase them anywhere and they volition transfer.
  • And then once and for all, if say your main is PS4, and you employ cross save to link to PC, yous tin can then buy a flavour on Steam and information technology will indeed come with you across all platforms, PC, PS4, Xbox, whatever.
  • This remains non truthful for Shadowkeep, which is where things get a niggling complicated. Shadowkeep comes with a season, so while the seasonal content itself will transfer (similar the premium boxing laissez passer) Shadowkeep itself has to be bought twice for two platforms for admission to Shadowkeep-specific content.

In short, it does not matter where you lot buy seasons then long as your account has cross save active. The finish. It remains a bit complicated due to Shadowkeep, New Light, the battle laissez passer, and all the different stuff that's in the game now, but I recollect one time we move into the era where we are just purchasing seasons by themselves, it volition be a bit more clear. Fifty-fifty if they seem like DLC, they are not classified as DLC, they're silver purchase, and as such, they will transfer between cross relieve accounts.

Phew.
